Rail
Seminole Gulf Railway (http://www.semgulf.com/freight.htm) is the premier provider of integrated freight transportation and logistics in the region since 1987, operating more than 100 miles of track in Southwest Florida.
The railroad has two separate lines. The minor line runs from Oneco south to Venice, with branches from Sarasota to Matoka and Fruitville. The major line runs from Arcadia to Vanderbilt Beach/North Naples. Each line has one interchange point with CSX, at Oneco (with the Palmetto Subdivision) and Arcadia (with the Brewster Subdivision). Passenger excursions are from Bonita Springs, Fort Myers, Punta Gorda and Arcadia. Company headquarters are located in Fort Myers.
In addition, Glades County has an inland port site just north west of the City of Moore Haven that is ideally located on the South Central Florida Express rail, US 27, and US 78. Currently, there are plans to build an inland port - an intermodal logistics center that provides for the opportunity to move large transport containers from rail-to-road and road-to-rail. Once completed, it will help expand the Southwest Florida transportation and logistics industry by making it cheaper, faster, more efficient and more secure for companies to move goods into, out of and through various Florida markets and ports.
