Education

Education is an important indicator of the overall productivity of an economy, and the people of Southwest Florida are as educated as any in the nation.

As of the 2000 Census, 82% of those age 25 and older in the region had a high school diploma, compared to 80% nationwide. And between our blossoming educational system and our thriving colleges and universities, we see Southwest Florida becoming a smarter place to do business, as well.

In fact, Florida led the nation with the most "Newsweek Top 100 U.S. High Schools" in 2008, accounting for nearly 1 out of every 5 of the top ranked schools, as measured by the magazine's Challenge Index.

Along with the region's primary and secondary schools, Southwest Florida is proud of its colleges and universities, which include:

What's more Florida Gulf Coast University and the emerging Florida Gulf Coast Technology and Research Park, are drawing new businesses to the area, and providing existing firms with the resources they need to innovate and grow.
